Knitter Spotlight- Meet Danielle

Meet Danielle:

She is an ovarian cancer survivor and one of our talented knitters. Not only is she a knitter but she has many other talents. One of which is working with wood. She told me she was tired of me taking photos of hats on my water bottle so she made this for Passing the Hat.

Another talent of her is running a cancer garage sale which raises funds for The American Cancer Society and  Hope Lodge.

“In 2011, my friend, David Lee was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma.  His daughter, Kristen got together with my daughter Cailee, Stefani and other friends and decided to have a garage sale to benefit cancer research.  The following year, 2012, Stefani’s mom battled lung cancer and then I got ovarian cancer.  With the help of my friend Susan so far we have raised: $5000-2011, $8000-2012,  $15,000-2013 $30,000-2014.  We also raised $15,000 for Relay for Life in 2013.

The first two years of our garage sale we were in a garage but as the sale got bigger, we used the community center, Castle Hills Community center 2501 Queen Margaret Lewisville, TX 75056 and then donated space for this last one. Trinity North medical plaza 6053 Main street The Colony, TX.

Stay tuned for the up in coming dates so you can join us.

In the photo below you will see one of my many talents. You never know where you will find treasures.”

http://www.BaylorScottandWhite.com – “It was a huge surprise,” said Danielle Dennis. “I had some pain in my belly, and it turned out to be ovarian cancer. At Baylor, Danielle’s surgeon explained her treatment options, which included participating in a clinical trial for a new drug. Now her cancer’s in remission, and she’s giving back by raising money for cancer research through community garage sales. “Research is the way of the future,” she said. “Without research, we can’t develop a cure. And we want to cure cancer.”
