A Time to Give Thanks

thanksgiving1

We all know someone who received those three dreaded words from their doctor- “You have cancer”. Passing Hats is not a cure but… we are able to place a smile on a cancer patients face while they are going through treatment. Our hats are hand made with love by volunteers. Our volunteers consist of cancer patients, survivors, and supporters. We are a totally voluntary 501C3 organization with no overhead.

Your generous donations go to purchasing yarn, and materials to make hats. This is the time of year when we think what we are thankful for. It is also the season for giving, and we count on your generosity to continue our mission of placing a hand- made hat with love on every cancer patients head.

We have grown over the past 5 ½ years from making 35-40 hats per month to over 1500 hats being made monthly. Our volunteer numbers have also increased from 8 individuals to over 150.

If you would like to donate please go to www.passinghats.org/donate. If you would like to volunteer or start a knitting or sewing group go to www.passinghats.org/volunteer and fill out our short form. We like to keep our hats local to your area. We will explain how to accomplish that.

Over the holidays most of us order gifts from Amazon. They are now also giving back. Go to www.smile.amazon.com . In the box put in Ellens Passing the Hat.  Click the enter button and place your order.  0.5% of your order will be donated by Amazon to Passing Hats. Every little bit counts.

We have individuals from lower income areas that want to give back but can’t afford the materials to make hats. We at Passing Hats provide the materials needed for them to make hats and give back to their community also. That also includes schools where students need to obtain community service hours, churches, and synagogues where they teach their students to give back.

We at Passing Hats want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. We are so very thankful to our many volunteers who spend hours making hats, labeling them, and to those who deliver hats to the many locations we currently serve. We are grateful for those who put together yarn drives for us and our donors and Angel donors. From the bottom of our hearts. THANK YOU!
